After closing the settlements for 2021, the City Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has collected an extra 226.910,15 euros for the Tax on Constructions, Installations and Works (ICIO), derived from the review of the cost of new construction works.

This tax, 3% in the locality, is calculated provisionally based on the prices established in the construction project. However, the amounts tend to vary (usually upwards), so the City Council must review the real cost of the work and make a final settlement after its completion.

“This last liquidation had never been done, so, for years, and even more so taking into account the urban boom that our territory has especially endured, our city council has lost a lot of money that could have been invested in the municipal coffers to improve infrastructure. and public services”, explained the mayor, Miguel Ángel García.

Just landed the current government to the local executive, that inspection was delegated to SUMA Tax Management, which has reviewed all new construction works from 2019 to four years ago. In total, 30 definitive liquidation files have been initiated, with which an extra 306.331,87 euros have been collected, of which 226.910,15 have gone to the municipal coffers. Of these thirty new works, 96,55% belonged to large real estate developers, and only 3,45% to individuals.

As Garcia pointed out, this simple gesture, which has not entailed any burden for the council, "derives from the government team's desire to responsibly and diligently manage the money of all residents." And, thanks to this, "revenues are being received that corresponded by law to the City Council and that had never been collected."
