Yesterday the traditional fellowship meal of the Association of Pensioners and Retirees of Poble Nou de Benitatxel took place. A great end to a Senior Week full of activities. Mayor, Miguel Ángel García, and the mayor's councilor, Isa Garrido, accompanied them in this important annual event.
In the parliaments, the president of the association, Mónica García, thanked the entire board of directors of the association, the mayor and the councilor of Mayor, and all the municipal technicians for making this week and the brotherhood meal possible, which achieves bring together more than 190 pensioners and retirees from the municipality. She also thanked the representatives of the retiree associations of Xàbia, Teulada, Benissa and Gata.
For her part, the mayor of El Mayor, Isa Garrido, listed some of the projects in which the Department of Elderly works, such as the Friendly City initiative for the Elderly, a plan that seeks to study the needs and gather the opinions of the elderly to set up a friendly municipality with the elderly. Regarding specific actions, Garrido explained, negotiations are already being carried out for the creation of a wake room, although the most complicated part, which is the location, has yet to be determined.
Progress is also being made in two on-demand public transport services: one to bring the residents of the urbanizations closer to the urban center to shop, do business, go to the doctor, etc., and another to accompany medical appointments of the hospital. “This project is a bit complicated because we not only want it to be a transportation service, but also an accompaniment. That the responsible person accompany the user to the door of the doctor and then pick him up. We are assessing how to do it and we will ask for your opinion, ”he indicated.
The municipality thanked the Retirees and Pensioners Association for its great work in organizing such a fun Week for the Elderly, and recalled some of the achievements in Elderly matters. It has been possible to have an ambulance headquarters in the town, "of which we are very proud and that we are trying to expand so that it provides 24-hour service."
He also highlighted improvements in help for dependent people. With regard to the files of the Dependency Law, it has been possible to speed up the processing. And as for the Home Help Service (SAD), which depends in part on the City Council, the waiting list has been eliminated and the number of users has been increased, giving visibility to this service previously unknown by a large part of the population. From the 12 users at the beginning of the legislature, there has been a total of 22 this year. Finally, García took advantage of the occasion to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the works on Avenida d'Alacant, and explained the reasons for the delay.
During the celebration, Mónica García, the mayor and the councilor presented a bouquet of flowers to the oldest member, who on this occasion was Rosa Català Llidó, 88 years old.
An intense week of events
The Association of Pensioners and Retirees has lived intensely a week full of activities. It started with the humorous presentation of 'Versos (per)versos', by Salvador Bolufer, on Monday the 18th. On Tuesday the older ones enjoyed the theater of You smell them from Benissa. On Wednesday there was an afternoon of bingo, chocolate and mona, and on Thursday an online salsa workshop and a performance by Rondalla de Crevillent. Already at the weekend, the theater 'Fiesta' of the seven comedians was performed on Friday, and there was picaeta and dance on Saturday.
