Benissa joins the Alicante Provincial Council's Electricity Supply Framework Agreement

11 October 2022 - 13: 00

The Benissa City Council has approved in the plenary session this morning to join the Framework Agreement on electricity supply for the entities and organizations attached to the Contracting Center of the Provincial Council of Alicante.

A thoughtful decision with which it is intended to buy energy at the "cheapest possible price taking into account the complex scenario in which we find ourselves", said the mayor, Arturo Poquet. And it is that, Benissa, who is currently paying 500.000 euros a year, will pay triple, €1.500.000. An amount that represents an important blow to the coffers of the consistory.

During his speech at the plenary session, the highest municipal leader declared that for a month the government team has been working together with the technical area on a savings plan that will reduce, as far as possible, the electricity bill that all benisseros and benisseras pay with their taxes. At the same time, he also recalled the advances made by his government team in this matter, accredited through actions such as the installation of solar panels in the municipal swimming pool or the lighting of a good part of the public spaces.

Outside the Plenary, Poquet wanted to launch a critical message against a central government of which he said: "Its lack of initiative in energy matters is condemning families, companies and public administrations." This problem, which affects all areas of society, awaits a response, we do not know if early or late by the competent administrations.
