Significantly increase addictions among adolescents in Benissa, so the City Council takes action

06 June 2022 - 10: 43

In recent years, addictions among adolescents have increased significantly. That is why the municipality of Benissa has re-launched the addictive behavior prevention service with technical staff who will dedicate 15 hours a week divided between specific management tasks and others directly related to the care of young people and their families. The summer schedule, June and July, will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 15:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m., since during the month of August it will remain closed. From the month of September it will be open in the morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 09:00 and 14:00 and on Wednesdays from 14:00 to 19:00. Any questions or additional information can be resolved through the email.

The objective of reactivating the UPCCA is to provide the municipality with a unit specialized in the prevention and intervention of drug addiction and other addictive behaviors in the different areas of action, to provide specialized or group psychological care to adolescents who have had their first contact with drugs, as well as providing information and advice to parents and teachers.

Another of the aims of the government team with the reactivation of the service is to create campaigns aimed at adolescents and hold prevention workshops in educational centers.

“A service that today is more important than ever”

According to reports from the technical department, the overall cost of the service will be about 16.000 euros that will be assumed from the Youth Department, headed by Councilor Lorena Ivars. The councilor has expressed her satisfaction for "restarting a service that today is more important than ever due to the increase in addictions among the younger population." To which he added, "although it should be the Ministry for a matter of competences that is in charge of providing this service, our government team is enormously aware of mental health problems and we have the obligation to collaborate in helping all those people from Benissa who need it”.
