The Consellería de Vivienda y Arquitectura Bioclimática has included the Pedreguer City Council in its grant-granting program for the rehabilitation of buildings and the adaptation of the built environment in municipalities through the 'Conviure' plan, with a total aid of €500.000 to rehabilitate the Musical.
The City Council presented a project for this space to become a building with various public uses for the citizens of Pedreguer and visitors to the town, since the project contemplates integrating the tourist office.
The project is a rehabilitation of two adjoining buildings with a relevant importance within the urban fabric of the population. On the one hand, the old Retén, a one-story building from 1905, representing architecture with academic roots but eclectic due to the use of various architectural languages. Its location attached to the church, and its relationship with the access patio to the Communion chapel raises the values, at the time that requires a rigorous control in future interventions, being a Real Estate of Local Relevance (BRL) with a comprehensive protection level.
On the other side, the La Musical Artistic Center, a 3-story building with an academic conception of the façade. Even so, the façade on the ground floor was remodeled during the 60s to integrate the new cafeteria use, eliminating the load-bearing wall that was replaced by continuous metal carpentry.
This building is a Non-Inventoried Asset (BNI) with a level of environmental protection. At the request of its donors, the Comes brothers, it will remain the headquarters of the Pedreguer Musical Art Center. On the ground floor, the existing cafeteria will be maintained, where concerts can be held, and the upper floors will be used as multipurpose rooms, one for the rehearsal of the local musical band. As for the old checkpoint, it is planned to install a tourist information point.
The project fully respects the outstanding characteristics of the two buildings, the protection of the image of the buildings being essential. For this reason, the complete rehabilitation of the La Musical building is proposed through the complete emptying of the building, conserving the façade and recovering its original voids following the axes established by the voids of the unmodified floors. A very simple construction is proposed based on the recovery of those original materials that are preserved in good condition.
To make the program of the two adjoining buildings compatible, a communications band is proposed to serve as a connection between these two. The new access to the building proposes a double-sided space that serves as an atrium, as an interior-exterior connection space that is an extension of the public space that is the Plaza Mayor and that serves as a link between the different programs proposed and those that may arise in the active life of the neighborhood fabric. In addition, it is proposed to open a patio attached to the courtyard of the Chapel that serves as an outdoor space and light source for the interior rooms.
The government team values this news very positively, since thanks to the impulse that the Generalitat Valenciana "will give to our project, Pedreguer will have an infrastructure that will improve the life of the town, while two historic buildings will be rehabilitated, and it will take forward the proposal chosen by the majority of the citizens of Pedreguera to the participatory budgets of 2021 (specifically it was "the elaboration of the Restoration Project of 'La Musical'")", government sources have stated.
