The historic 300 Millas A3 regatta, Grefusa Trophy, began its 24th edition yesterday from the vicinity of the Moraira Yacht Club, with a punctual start at 12:00. The fleet began its journey with a light southerly wind that barely reached 6 knots, offering a technical and strategic start.

At the skippers' meeting, the Organising and Race Committee decided to modify the usual route, adapting to the weather forecast. After the start, the boats headed towards the island of Tabarca, then to the tip of Vedranel, continue towards the Bledas Islands, return to Vedranel, pass a buoy near Moraira, return to Tabarca and finally return to the starting point in Moraira, where the finish line is located next to the green lighthouse.

The start was marked by variable wind conditions and a very close-knit fleet, with roles that required precise tactical decisions. Some of the participants opted for tacks on the outside, where they found better wind pressure, while others, who sailed closer to land, were affected by calm areas that relegated them to the last positions in the early stages.

At 17:00, after five hours of competition, the fleet was sailing off La Vila, with a 5 knot wind. The Alzira Moraira, a Swan 75 and the largest boat in the competition, was leading the race with an average speed of 6 knots. In second place was the Valencian Aquarelle 1-Varadero Valencia, current champion with a Fress44, which was sailing further out. In third place was the TP52 Blue Carbon, which opted for a route closer to land.

In the chasing group, Swan 45 M10 Zas Sailing, Jeffertje 3, Smerit and HM Hospitales Hydra were engaged in a duel for the middle positions, constantly exchanging positions. A short distance away, three other boats—Oui (Corby36), Sayonara Light (AM34) and Spaniard (Grand Soleil 50)—followed closely behind the main group.

The regatta, organised by the Moraira Yacht Club, is part of the new A3 Interclubs Circuit, which also includes the 3th Vuelta a Mallorca A11 – Memorial Jaume Binimelis, organised by the RCN de Palma and scheduled for 13-XNUMX April, and the XNUMXth edition of the same event at the CN Vilanova. The aim of this circuit is to encourage and promote the participation of shipowners in demanding offshore races.
