Mayors and businessmen of the Marina Alta join forces to promote the areas affected by the fire

August 31 from 2022 - 15: 32

The mayors, together with some councilors from the municipalities affected by the Vall d'Ebo fire, met this morning with representatives of the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community to analyze the great disaster that has burned more than 12.000 hectares of forest area in the High Navy.

The meeting aimed to create synergies and draw lines of work to recover the areas affected by the fire, as well as achieve the revitalization of the municipalities. The meeting was attended by the Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Economic Promotion of Pego, Ricardo Sendra, and the Councilor for Urban Planning and the Environment, Laura Castellà; the president of the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community, Salvador Navarro; the president of the same entity in the province of Alicante, Joaquín Pérez; representatives of the Cercle Empresarial de la Marina Alta such as its president, Benito Mestre; and businessmen such as Adolfo Utor or José Juan Fornés, among others.

One of the most outstanding points on which both employers and the highest representatives of the municipalities have agreed is the need to renew and improve the Forest Law "to prevent fires 365 days a year." They have also expressed their concern about the state of the mountains in the area, "the mountains are dirty and it has been one of the main causes of the fire, it must be solved".

For the Councilor for the Environment of Pego, the meeting “has been very positive because we know what we need to improve on. In addition, we are all going to work hand in hand to make the necessary changes a reality”.

The meeting has also served to talk in a business key. The fire has once again put on the table the need to bet on the interior of the region. "We must take advantage of the great business fabric that the Marina Alta has to create synergies and opportunities for the municipalities of the interior that need an economic boost", remarked Councilor Ricardo Sendra.

Among the ideas that have been put on the table "is that of promoting the products that are grown on our lands such as rice, perelló or oil, among others", explained Sendra. One of the main objectives is to seek differentiation through a quality seal, "but for this it is also necessary to find ways of financing, aid so that this sector, the agricultural or producer, can work with the certainty that the future is positive".
