Agriculture calls for 1,5 million in aid to cherry farms affected by adverse weather factors

January 07 from 2025 - 13: 13

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has called for aid for cherry farms affected by climatic and environmental factors and fires in the Valencian Community for a total of 1,5 million euros.

This measure aims to mitigate the economic losses suffered by cherry producers during the 2023 campaign, which was marked by adverse weather conditions and other exceptional factors.

The aim of this aid is to provide financial support to ensure the stability of the sector, enabling producers to meet the challenges arising from extreme weather conditions and fires.

Cherry cultivation plays a key role in the agricultural sector in various regions of the Valencian Community, being an economic engine that generates wealth and employment in rural areas. In addition, it contributes to the sustainable development of the territory, favouring the preservation of the environment and the landscape.

However, during 2023, the meteorological incidents that occurred caused significant damage to this crop, leading to a reduction in yields. The high temperatures recorded during flowering and the rains in the middle of the harvest campaign left a significant balance of losses and a final production well below that of a normal campaign.

Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, through an open and early call for applications.

The deadline for submitting applications is 31 January. For more information, interested parties can consult the details in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV).
