Will "Yellow Christmas" affect the Marina Alta during these holidays?

24 December 2022 - 09: 31

For days it has been warned in the region that this Christmas will not be white, precisely. Not because of the probability of snow, of course, but because we are experiencing an episode of high temperatures that is more typical of spring than of the recently launched winter.

Just a few days ago, the Climatology Laboratory of the University of Alicante stated that during the holidays the province will be affected by "an abnormally soft air mass for the dates and with a slight flow from the west". Which translates into high temperatures that have been able to touch 25ºC in recent days on the coast. However, for December 24 and 25, the maximum temperatures will be between 18 and 20ºC.

The forecast of the State Meteorological Agency predicts a sunny sky throughout the weekend and with temperatures that will allow you to enjoy an aperitif on the terraces. Almost the same as at night, when on December 24 temperatures will be around 15ºC and 17ºC.

But the entity also warned at the beginning of the week of an exceptional phenomenon, referring to it as "Yellow Christmas". Meteored explains the phenomenon and clarifies that it is the combination of these mild temperatures with suspended dust.

This mass of dust will directly affect the Canary Islands, but it will move to the peninsula, especially on Sunday. The haze could reach the Marina Alta slightly tonight, although it will withdraw to return early Sunday to Monday, but slightly compared to the rest of the peninsula.
